I had the pleasure of chatting with Sugar Taylor, of Taylor and Hov Events, and it was nothing short of inspirational.
Sugar is one of our amazing speakers for Refreshed DC 2016, and after speaking with her, I absolutely know why she is as successful in life and business as she is!
In the video she shares her thoughts on Balance, Business, and Bettering yourself. (Yeah, I just did that!) The full-on laugh session is towards the end, but that shows just how real Sugar is. You can see her full written interview below the video.
Our REFRESHED Event is only a few weeks away (May 13-15th) and we’re gearing up for a truly unique experience with these behind the scenes video interviews with our live speakers!
Make the most of a 15 minute break and prepare to be inspired by these fabulous women who share things like their #1 tip for success, a business lesson they wish they’d learned sooner, and a few other valuable tid-bits.
What’s your story?
You cannot ask a loquacious person like me such a vague question. lol. My story is that of a woman who is still overcoming a great deal of strife from the past, and turning that into a satisfying career as a multi-media designer, mother and wife. I came from the Bronx, New York, and lost my parents at a young age, have been through homelessness and battled anxiety and depression. Despite those challenges and others, I co-founded an Event Planning and Design/ Branding Firm and continue to flourish on the inside and out.
What kind of lady boss are you?
Am I a boss lady? I am only in charge of myself in this life. We have planners and a designer and florists that work WITH us, but I make no claims on being a ‘boss’ in the traditional sense.
What’s your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
My favorite thing about being an entrepreneur is the opportunity to work my own schedule, and spend the maximum amount of time with my children that I can.
What is your #1 tip for success?
Focus on absolutely pleasing your clients, and truly relish in the fact that you are doing what makes YOU happy as well, and the money will come. We all want money, but try not to make that to absolute focus.
What are your big dreams and goals?
I am working on bringing one to actualization as we speak (and I cannot talk about it yet)—-but I would say aside from business goals, I aspire to TRAVEL with my family. I dream of living abroad with my family.
Do you have a morning or daily ritual?
I would like to say that I make my shake and do yoga. LIES. I do it when I can but I am NOT a ritualistic person aside from my morning clean-up mission. I have this thing where I cannot even THINK until my house is nice and neat. lol
How do you avoid overwhelm?
I avoid overwhelm by estimating the amount of hours something will take when someone hires me, and scheduling out the workload then committing to “X” amount of hours per week on whatever my workload entails. I do not negotiate my prices, so that I know I am making enough not to have to “scramble”, and take who can afford me and value the timeline I set forth.
How to connect with you?
I am an email person. —not good on the phone and get nervous about phone calls. (What do I SAYYYYY?!) —–but I also love in person interaction, so I always leave room on my calendar for a good heart to heart chat.
